Initiatives

In 2025, Straight Road International began conducting brain health education and providing memory/cognitive screenings. Cognitive screenings check for problems with cognition. Cognition is the process of acquiring knowledge and understanding through thought, experience, and the senses. Memory/cognitive screenings check for any signs of cognitive decline, which is a problem in how a patient perceives and interacts with the environment around them. Memory/cognitive screenings cannot show the specific causes of impairment. However, it can help determine if more tests are needed and what steps might be taken to address the problem.

In 2024, Straight Road International began providing oral health training and resources to older adults and caregivers across four counties of South Carolina. Straight Road is a member of the South Carolina Oral Health Action Network (SCOHAN). This initiative aimed to reinforce research indicating a connection between oral health and Alzheimer's disease, as the mouth is often referred to as a mirror of health and disease.

In 2022, Straight Road International began to deliver education workshops across South Carolina on dementia and elder financial abuse. Straight Road's "Elder Financial Abuse in the Dementia Community" training was approved by the National Association of Social Workers for 2 hours of continuing education credits.
